The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major film company and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
