Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police reported they were alerted by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.

Police report they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement say initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.

A high-ranking representative said the attack rendered him without words and required to be solved quickly.

"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
